Earlier this Summer when I was first elected as your Member of Parliament, I attended a virtual meeting of the HS2 Liaison Group with Local Councillors and community groups to discuss the many issues local residents have been facing. As I had stated back in July, I promised I would go on working closely with my neighbour, Sarah Bool MP and arrange a site visit to HS2 to discuss the next steps.
I’m happy to share that last Friday I met with Sarah at EKFB’s Chipping Warden compound where I was invited to a meeting to discuss the ongoing project with Bill Price, the HS2 Project Client Director, Maddelyn Sutton, the HS3 Head of Engagement and Simon Mathews, the EKFB Interface & Stakeholder Director. They updated us on the project, and I was keen to put forward the need for further dialogue and a further meeting to discuss specific issues such as the impact of the project causing extended road closures, the effect on businesses, delayed opening of new road routes and concerns highlighted to me previously about the permanent long distant diversions for drivers.
As part of my afternoon, I also made a visit to Boddington Village Hall where I engaged with both Parish and West Northamptonshire Council Councillors, and local residents regarding the condition of the local highway network that’s in close proximity to HS2. It was a great opportunity to be able to listen and understand their concerns regarding the local road network and the impact HS2 works are having on their community. We discussed how to move forward and I will continue to work and speak with those impacted.
