Ahead of Small Business Saturday tomorrow, I continued my tour of local independent businesses with a visit to Suddenly On Sheaf Street in Daventry Town Centre.
I had the pleasure of meeting founder Cheryl Thallon and Store Managers Joana and Tom, where we held productive discussions about the challenges and opportunities facing local retailers on our High Street. Our conversation covered several important topics for Daventry's development, including the advantages of repurposing the old Northamptonshire Union Bank, improving shop frontages and addressing the state of our pavements which have been adversely affected by tarmac repairs. I was delighted to be invited to join the next Daventry Retailers Forum in January, where I'll have the opportunity to hear directly from our local retailers about how I can support them further.
Housed in a magnificent Grade II listed 16th century building, Suddenly on Sheaf Street stands as Daventry's only independent bookshop, offering an impressive collection of over 7,000 books. Visitors can explore everything from children's literature to science fiction, crime novels and romance, while also having the opportunity to participate in various activities including crafting, crochet and scrapbooking. I warmly encourage everyone to visit this wonderful independent bookshop and experience what it has to offer.
