Today in Parliament I challenged the Labour Government on their devastating £1.4 billion charity tax.
Our charitable sector from hospices to community organisations is being put in real danger by this increase in Employers' National Insurance. When charities needed support under the Conservative government, we provided £100 million. Now Labour seeks to take FOURTEEN times that in taxes.
I asked the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sports, Lisa Nandy MP, two simple questions: where does she expect vital organisations to find the money for this tax? Marie Curie faces a £3 million bill and Teenage Cancer Trust £300,000. Who will fill these gaps when charities are forced to scale back?
I strongly emphasise the need for proper impact assessments and practical solutions, pledging to continue defending the charitable sector's interests.
