Last Friday I was invited by DACT to celebrate their 30th anniversary where I was honoured to give a speech about volunteering.
It was truly inspiring to see how DACT has been serving Daventry and the District Community with transport and mobility needs for three decades. The gathering at the ARC Cinema brought together past and present staff and volunteers of DACT, showcasing the dedication that’s kept this amazing organisation going for all these years.
It was particularly moving to hear from DACT volunteers, Malcolm from the workshop, David a car driver, and Jess, a minibus driver. Their personal accounts really brought home the impact and importance of volunteering. Rob Kinning, one of DACT’s founders and past CEO had also shared the organisation's origin story from thirty years ago, which was fascinating to hear.
In my speech I shared my delight to celebrate the spirit of volunteering, where volunteers across the country do excellent things day in, day out, something I saw and had the pleasure of witnessing first hand both before my time as a Member of Parliament during my time in the charity sector and as Minister for Civil Society in the previous Government. Across the UK, millions of people offer their time and services every year, and I am grateful to everyone at DACT.
The benefits of volunteering are well documented, and whether you’re helping out at a local youth club or providing a listening ear to isolated neighbours, we can all take the time out to help one another and continue to create a kinder, more caring society.
As your MP, I am truly proud to see such a strong community organisation thriving. Here’s to another 30 years of DACT!
